On Monday May 6, 2013, the Women in Leadership Foundation will be hosting Canada’s inaugural Women in Social Business Forum. The Forum, to be held at the Canadian Museum of Nature – Ottawa, will highlight women’s leadership in the growing sector of social business.
What makes this event significant is not that we don’t have great female leaders in our sector, it’s that we don’t celebrate them. As women come together to hear the stories of tremendous success, I think they will be encouraged to apply their own skills and expertise in social business. Women bring their values to work and that is at the heart of this sector where profit and social benefit go together, not apart.
The event begins at 11:00 am with a Business Fair for social enterprises, followed by 5 leading female speakers during lunch: The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of HRSDC; Barb McInnes, CEO Community Foundation of Ottawa, Nancy Neamtan, CEO Chantier de l’economie sociale, Tessa Hebb, Carleton Centre for Community Innovation and Jane Duchscher, Vice President, Regional banking, TD Bank. The afternoon is about improving financial literacy and leadership skill development with workshops by Community Forward Fund, MaRS Centre for Impact Investing, The Leadership Group and Hannah Beach: I Can Dance a Better World.
Tickets are available at http://ottawawomeninsocialbusiness.eventbrite.ca/and are priced individually at $75 for the luncheon or $125 for the full Forum. The Full Program includes lunch, afternoon workshops, free parking and a complimentary guided tour of the Museum.
Come help celebrate!
